Conservation

The key objectives of HAMRA include seeking appropriate management of the conservation area by the London Borough of Hammersmith & Fulham (LBHF) to maintain the beautiful and historic character of the area, including its public areas and green spaces, thus making the neighbourhood a pleasant place to live and to visit.

Part of this involves taking an informed and active interest in all planning applications affecting The Mall Conservation Area.  In order to do this in a systematic and enlightened manner, at its Board Meeting on 11 March 2010, HAMRA formed a Planning Committee to respond to all planning applications and establish a good working relationship with the LBHF Planning Department.

In common with the other 43 conservation areas in the Borough, the LBHF has not prepared a Management Plan for The Mall Conservation Area.  In the absence of a Management Plan, there is a risk - as has possibly been the case - that planning decisions may be taken from the narrow perspective of the applicant to the detriment of the wider interests of The Mall Conservation Area.  The principal concern of the Planning Committee will be to protect The Mall Conservation Area, as outlined above.
